Loopworm, a Bengaluru biomanufacturing startup, raised $3.25 million in a pre-Series A round to scale its method for making recombinant proteins from silkworms. Founded by Ankit Alok Bagaria and Abhi Gawri, both IIT Roorkee graduates, the company uses insects as the production host instead of the steel bioreactors that conventional recombinant protein production depends on. The approach is aimed at cutting the cost and environmental footprint of producing complex proteins for medical and industrial use. Loopworm is a WaterBridge portfolio company.
