Domestic capital still accounts for less than 5% of the money going into India's startup ecosystem, even after several years of growth in India-focused funds, according to WaterBridge Ventures founder and managing partner Manish Kheterpal. Most of the funding remains foreign, and raising domestic capital in the country stays difficult.

Kheterpal set out why he is nonetheless optimistic about the India opportunity, pointing to the slow build of domestic institutional money and family offices as a base that can deepen over time.
