WaterBridge Ventures has pointed roughly half its portfolio at startups serving consumers and small businesses outside India's largest cities. Guided by managing partner Manish Kheterpal, the firm sees far bigger opportunities in smaller towns and rural areas than in the metros, citing sectors such as intercity bus transport where demand well beyond the cities dwarfs the urban ride-hailing market.
The thesis centers on companies solving everyday problems for underserved users in these regions, from mobility to access to essential services. Rather than chasing the same metro-focused bets as its peers, WaterBridge is building around founders who understand distribution and demand in India's next set of towns and villages.
